Samsung Galaxy S Captivate was released on Rogers ( A Telecommunication Newtrok), this phone has some some different characteristics from other variants. few days ago a Gingerbread upgrade for Rogers Captivate was rolled and this in reality killed the root privileges. Today i am sharing an easy way to get root privileges back.

Instructions  To Root Rogers Captivate Running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread

  • In the first step You are requested to download and install Samsung Captivate drivers [64 Bit, 32 Bit] on your PC.
  • Second Step is to  download and install KIES here
  • ODIN is required and you are requested to download ODIN zip file from here.
  • Now Extract the ODIN zip you downloaded earlier on your desktop.Make a new ODIN folder on your desktop and move all the files in odin.zip to that new folder
  • Fifth step is to Download the Fugu Root Kernel along with Uxkh2 kernel. After successfull download save these tar files in odin folder you created in the fourth step.
  • After 5th step now lets get to some real work. Now put your phone in download mode. See how to do this :  completely power off your device and  connect your device to your PC via USB cable while tightly holding the volume up and down keys both.
  • Now Leave the phone and run ODIN. by double cliking on it. You will see your phone detected with a com port tab going yellow.
  • In the ODIN interface, Uncheck all options and check  Auto Reboot check.
  • Now click on PDA option and select Fugu Kernel you earlier copied to ODIN folder on your desktop. After this click on Start and kernel will flashed. After kernal flashing process your phone will reboot automatically and will go into a boot loop. Dont get panic and remove the battery.
  • Now install the battery again by following the instructions provided in the step 6 to achieve download mode.
  • After going into  download mode, feel free to flash the uxKH2 kernel available in your Odin folder. After you are done flashing, your device will reboot. This time everything would be alright.
